Dateline: Monroe, NC Violet Simpson Medlin AKA Maw-Maw passed away August 19, 2019. Violet was born in Union County, NC on October 14, 1945 to the late Hoyle and Myrtle Simpson. Violet had a very big heart when it came to the community. She constantly was nurturing someone, and she always had the compassion to help anyone who needed it. Everyone could say that Violet was a full ray of sunshine. When it came to work Violet enjoyed helping people no matter how old they were. She would always have a way to uplift everyone's spirits because she would leave someone with a huge smile on their face Violet always said that when the time came to go to Heaven she will be looking for her son, Walt Lee. She would greet him with a big hug and have him guide her to the nursery to find a rocking chair to care for all the babies. Violet was married for 55 years to her first and only love, Walter Medlin Sr. They met while she was attending Monroe High School and they were married December 5, 1964 and were in love ever since. Violet is survived by her husband, Walter Medlin Sr.; daughters: Wendy Medlin Secrest (Bryan), Scarlett Johnson (Matt); brothers: OJ Simpson (Lynda), Roger Simpson (Sue); sister: Helen Price (Joe Neil); grandchildren: Morgan Whitaker (Jonathan), Jordan Strickland (Lyndsey), Madisen Parker, Dalton Medlin, Nolan Johnson, Ava Johnson; great grandchildren: Jonah, Jebsen, Joel Whitaker and Leeland Jenkins. Violet loved her family very much and when it came to the step-grandchildren she loved them all as if they we her own. Violet is also survived by her step-grandchildren: Blair, Haley, Zach Secrest and Kaitlyn Johnson. Violet is preceded in death by her Parents: Hoyle and Myrtle Simpson; Son: Walter Lee Jr. (passed away in 2005); Brothers: Joe Neil Simpson; Alan Simpson; Sister: Peggy Simpson. On behalf of Violet the family would like to recognize and send out a huge thank you to Novant Matthews Hospital, especially to her loyal doctor, Dr. Eric Thompson and the ICU nurses, Julia H. and Michelle. He has been her doctor for over 20 years at Charlotte Gastro. The family would also like to say thank you to Hospice of Matthews, especially to Ms. Brenda and to nurse Jacclyn. The family would like to thank everyone who helped care for Violet for her time of need. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Novant Matthews Inpatient Hospice and Palliative Care. At the families request they will not be holding any services for the public. The family will have a private service for Violet at a later time.
