Thomas David Laney, age 76, of Waxhaw, North Carolina, passed away Friday, January 31, 2020 at Novant Health Hospice, Matthews, North Carolina surrounded by his loving family. David was born November 6, 1943 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, the son of the late Louise Todd Laney and Jesse Thomas Laney of Waxhaw, North Carolina. David was Branch Manager at Petroleum World for many years and retired from Ryder/Xerox. David enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and he loved to travel. He served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at his church. He was Pop/Dad to his two children and granddad to his four grandchildren that were a joy to his life. David was preceded in death by his mother, Louise Todd Laney, his father, Jesse Thomas Laney and brother, Eddie Wayne Laney. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Shirley Barnes Laney, his son, Thomas David Laney, II (Christine), his daughter, Sherry Laney Bova (Paul), his granddaughters, Amanda Kristen Laney and Sierra Lauren Laney and grandsons, Thomas David Laney, III "Trey" and Michael James Bova. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. Visitation following the service at Mary Elizabeth Baptist Church, 3703 Mary Elizabeth Church Rd., Waxhaw, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mary Elizabeth Baptist Church, Brotherhood or Mary Elizabeth Baptist Church Building Fund, 3703 Mary Elizabeth Church Rd., Waxhaw, North Carolina 28173.
