Mr. James Herbert "Sonny" Rorie, 82, passed away January 8, 2020. Sonny was born in Union County on June 1, 1937 to the late Olin and Ruth Funderburk Rorie. Sonny proudly served our country in the US Army. He enjoyed spending his time on the farm and will be remembered as a beloved, Husband, Father, Papa, Great Papa, and Uncle. A visitation will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, January 10, 2020 at Gilboa United Methodist Church. A service to celebrate Sonny's life will be held at 2:00 PM in the Church sanctuary. Rev. Luke Christy will be officiating. He will be laid to rest with full military honors in the Marshville City Cemetery. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Martha H. Rorie; daughter, Angie Boyd (Ken); grandchildren, Jonathan Williams (Kristin), Jameathan Williams (Danielle), Danielle Boyd, and Justin Boyd (Brooke); great-grandchildren, Laina Williams, Dalton Williams, Harper Williams, Aubrey Boyd, Maci Williams; sisters-in-law, Joyce Tyson (Ed), Shirley Rorie, and several special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Sonny was preceded in death by his brothers, Gary Rorie and Larry Rorie; sisters, Elaine Martin, and Ann Griffin. The family would like to thank Sonny's caregivers,the V.A., Dr. Gregory Brouse, Kindred Health, Home Instead Senior Care, and Hospice of Union County for the love and kindness that they shared with him. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Gilboa United Methodist Church, Home Instead Senior Care, or Hospice of Union County. Holland Funeral Service & Crematory is caring for the Rorie family.
