Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Reverend Sherron E. Courneen, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and pastor.

Sherron was born to Bernard and Vera Johnston Courneen on October 31st, 1943 in Rochester, NY, and passed September 18, 2026 in Waxhaw, NC at the age of 82.

Sherron moved from NY and travelled to Aurora, Ohio, where she attended high school, later receiving a Bachelor’s of Arts and Sciences degree from Ohio State University in 1992, with an honors degree in Scientific Writing for which she received an Award of Excellence while being a lab research assistant in psychophysiology.She continued her pursuit of education and acquired a dual Masters degree from Methodist Theological School in Delaware, OH in 1992. Masters in Divinity and Masters of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Ministry. She also was an ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church(UMC) in the Western Ohio Conference. Sherron delivered her wisdom as a United Methodist Minister in Rio Grande, OH and as a Pastor and Outreach Director for St. Paul’s UMC in Dayton, OH, San Jose, CA, and Vacaville, CA. She was also an associate pastor for South UMC in Columbus, OH as well as a specialty minister with people of Appalachian Heritage and Hispanic communities in Dallas, TX.

Sherron had a love of learning, as she continually read and collected her own personal library. She thrived in outdoor activities such as gardening, hiking, cycling, and kayaking, and captured her new experiences in her photography.Sherron was outspoken in her support for human rights and expressed such while dancing and marching for various causes; especially including women’s rights.

Sherron is preceded in death by her children Dave (Diane), Jim (English), and Kate (Michael). Grandchildren Candace, Emily, Jack, Phoebe, Katie, Violet and Max. Preceded in death her son Chuck and her granddaughter Jordan. Her cherished 7 great-grandchildren. 

The family will be having a private ceremony for family in Aurora, Ohio at a future date. 

Her family is grateful for the kindness and support shown during this difficult time.
