Shelly Marvin Baucom, a cherished member of the Monroe community and a proud veteran, passed away surrounded by his loving family on March 19, 2026. Born on May 11, 1949, in Union County, Shelly lived a life marked by dedication, passion, and a deep love for family and friends.
Shelly served honorably in the Army, a testament to his commitment and strength of character. Beyond his military service, he was a man of varied interests who found joy in cars and spent much time at American Parts, indulging his enthusiasm for automotive pursuits. He was an avid NASCAR fan, especially devoted to Dale Earnhardt Sr., and enjoyed the excitement of dirt track racing. His love of sports extended to football, where he supported the Pittsburgh Steelers with great enthusiasm. Wrestling and fishing also brought him much happiness, as did his involvement with the Wixie AM/FM and his beloved Church family, which was a significant part of his life.
Shelly's enduring legacy is reflected in the love and memories shared by his surviving family. He is deeply mourned by his wife, Patricia Baucom; his daughters Angie Gardner (OV) and Kari Crook (Brian); sons, Jamie Sims (Holly), Chris Sims, and Corey Sims (Chaley) and his considerable extended family that includes twenty grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind cherished nephews Michael Blackburn (Shannon), Ronnie Blackburn (Denise), David Blackburn, and Jayme Carroll; nieces Renee Nolan, Ellen Hinson (Danny), Catherine Carroll, Hannah Carroll, Olivia McLean, and Genia Carroll; a beloved godchild, Danielle Carlton; and his brother Charles Ray Baucom. Each holds a special place in his story and the hearts of those who knew him well.
Shelly was preceded in passing by his parents, Charles Winford Baucom and Ola Baucom, whose memory he carried with him always. He was also predeceased by his sisters Mavis Parker and Peggy Blackburn, and his nephew Blake, whose passings are deeply felt alongside his own.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on March 24, 2026, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Holland Funeral Service in Monroe, North Carolina. A funeral service to honor Shelly’s life will be held on March 25, 2026, starting at 1:00 PM at Memorial United Methodist Church in Monroe, followed by a burial at Lakeland Memorial Park.
Shelly Marvin Baucom’s life story is one of spirited enthusiasm, unwavering loyalty to family, and heartfelt connections that will live on through those who loved him. His memory will remain a guiding light, inspiring all who had the privilege of knowing him.
