Sharon Gay Lilly

December 8, 1952 – February 7, 2026

Sharon “Shay” Lilly, age 73, of Indian Trail, NC passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at her home.

Shay was born on December 8, 1952 in Beckley, WV, daughter of the late George and Juanita Torrico. She was a devoted mother whose greatest joy was her son, Richard Staples. After his motorcycle accident, Shay cared for him as a full-time caregiver for over 14 years until his passing. Their close bond is honored today as we celebrate their reunion in heaven.

Shay, a committed Christian, frequently shared her testimony. She held a deep affection for animals, particularly her own companions—Kashea, Lex, Lover Boy, and Silver. Shay will be sincerely missed by her family, friends, neighbors, and pets.

Shay is survived by her sister, Barbara Keith of Fuquay-Varina, NC; niece, Tiffany Jelovich and her husband, Dan of Raleigh, NC; nephew John Keith and his wife, Jennifer of Holly Springs, NC. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Brenda Asbury and her son, Richard Staples.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The National Fragile X Foundation in support of her great-nephew, Winston.

A visitation is scheduled at Holland Funeral Service in Monroe, NC for Thursday, February 12, 2026 from  11:00am until 11:45am.  Immediately following the viewing, a graveside service will be held for family members in Gold Hill, NC.
