The family of Sam Caudle, borrowing one of his favorite sayings, shares that it was finally “time to wind it up” and meet his Savior face to face on June 13, 2026, at the age of 85.
Sam was born in Anson County to the late Luther and Orene Caudle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Jean Caudle; his sister, Peggy Hyatt; his brother, Wylie Caudle; and his brother Don Caudle.
Sam’s faithful and reserved nature perfectly complemented his marriage to Jean. Together, they answered the Lord’s call on their lives, and in December 1971, Sam gave his heart to Christ. Those who knew him could clearly see that he was never the same after that day.
Sam met his bride in 1962, and the two were married just three months later. Early in their marriage, they traveled to and lived in Germany while he served in the United States Army. He often spoke fondly of spending his days driving a colonel, playing ping pong, and shooting pool.
Throughout his life, Sam served the Lord faithfully in many capacities through his work. His time with Swanson Sheet Metal became a cherished part of his career. Even in retirement, he continued working part-time with API Security, where he approached the job the same way he approached everything else in life, with dedication and a commitment to doing the very best job.
However, husband, father, and “Poppy” were among his most treasured roles. He always loved when the “wrecking crew” was coming to town and was known for letting the great-grands get away with far more than his children or grandchildren ever could.
Sam and Jean attended every family event they possibly could. As he liked to say, they were always “high-tailing it” from one activity to the next - ball games, concerts, graduations, weddings, and everything in between; and he loved every minute of it.
He passed down a love of sports, especially basketball, as a devoted Duke Blue Devils fan. More importantly, he passed down a legacy of faith. Sam faithfully interceded before the Lord on behalf of his family every day. The impact of those prayers, and his unwavering faithfulness to God, will continue to be felt for generations to come.
After months of missing his beloved bride, Sam is now rejoicing in the presence of his Savior, reunited once again with Jean.
A funeral service will be held at 11am on June 16, 2026, at Bible Baptist Tabernacle Church, 2900 Walkup Ave, Monroe, NC 28110, with burial to follow. The family will receive friends at 10am before the service on Tuesday the 16th.
Sam is survived by his daughter, Becky Jordan (Jeff); his son Sammy Caudle (Mia); his grandchildren Madison Gurley (Nick), Wes Caudle (Kassidy), Rachel Jordan, Claire Baker (Matt), Will Caudle (Charity), and Wyatt Caudle; and his great-grandchildren Elanor, Gibson, Callahan, Avangeline, Jordan, Sam, and Florence Jean.
Holland Funeral Service is serving the Caudle Family.
