Ruth Harrison Short, 89, of Monroe went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 31st.� Ruth was born June 22, 1929, the youngest of 12 children.��She grew up in Charlotte, graduated from Central HS and began working at the age of 14 in a candy company.��Ruth went on to build a career in insurance; which included opening and growing her own agency, MultiLine Insurance of Charlotte.��Ruth retired at 75 years young from Capps Insurance of Indian Trail after 48+ years in the insurance industry.� Ruth was a proud, independent, hardworking, 'do it my way' business woman, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor.��She built her 1st�home at the age of 46, where she raised 2 children all on her own.��Ruth enjoyed spending time at home; each day working the Observer crossword puzzle, working with her flowers, watching old movies, eating chocolate of any kind, smoking her cigarettes and napping in her chair with her 14 yo Schnauzer, Buster.��But most of all, she loved and enjoyed her family. Ruth is survived by her son Tony Short (Beth) of Monroe, NC, her daughter Christina Short of Wilmington, NC, 4 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life soon; however, that date has yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that memorials be made in her honor to Hospice of Union County, 700 West Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC.
