Obituary

Robert Solnick, a loving father and multi-skilled machine operator, expert in masonry and other construction projects, died Tuesday August 18th, 2020 at the age of 41 in Indian Trail, North Carolina. Rob is survived by his mother Ann, his sister Rebecca, his brother Mark and his daughter Maya. Among his nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and cousins. Rob was born in Manhattan, NY on December 20, 1978 to Robert R. Solnick, father and Ann Solnick, his mother. Early in life; he struggled in school because of his ADHD but worked hard to get on the honor roll and was very proud of getting on the varsity wrestling team as a freshman in high school. He went to an art college for a year in Philly because of a desire to be a fashion designer for men's clothes, especially suits. He also was very talented in writing poetry; he created an official book of his writings where he would go to open mic night. He had great street smarts and a keen sense of awareness to get out of many sticky situations in NJ and Philly. He loved living up north. Rob moved to North Carolina in his early twenties. He was married for ten years to Amber Solnick. They had a daughter, Maya Ann who was the love of his life. He was a devoted father over the short span of three years. His favorite time together was at nap, snuggled close together. Whether it be chasing her around or helping her paint and play with play dough, he just wanted to protect her and support her. He would buy her the world if he could, all to see her happy and smile. He was very thoughtful and creative to write her songs and cards to show how much she meant to him. He had a strong desire to make sure she has opportunities to do different things and have an education in and outside of school. He was a great dad, he truly was. Rob, also known as Bobbie, was a hard worker with a great work ethic who wanted to be valued. He was a master at masonry. He enjoyed teaching the art of the work so it would be done properly; he was respected for his talent and dedication. He was so proud of the stone works he created for customer's homes. He earned his CDL license and traveled across the country. He was a master showing no fear through extremely bad weather; staying the course for long hours to get the job done. He has been proud to help construct large buildings in the North Carolina area and military base. He enjoyed being a foreman, running a crew and managing a budget and seeing the blueprints. He operated large machinery on construction sites, recently a crane where he was the only one who moved various things across the site. He was proud to have started working at 15 years old, and over 25 years earned licenses and certifications in the process to be the best in his field. He loved his dogs; Cleo and Rocky; two purebred Akita's who were his babies. He raised and trained them to be very obedient; he was very in tune with them. He loved the loyalty they brought to his life. Rob was very intelligent with history and science facts. He was completely fascinated with Egypt and Greek mythical worlds. He constantly would learn about our solar system, aliens, and scientific advances. It was amazing to hear him talk about the details and remembering various historical events. He'd spend hours listening to podcasts on Elon Musk and Joe Rogan. He loved comedians, movies and his beloved Eagles. He would hand carve things and loved working with wood. He always had different tools in order to be handy around the house or outside. He could fix most things on his own, no task seemed too big. In his recreational time, he loved playing disc golf and collecting his prize discs. He also loved fishing; spending hours out on the pier successfully catching different fish. He also enjoyed shooting pool or sitting at a bar with a couple crown and cokes, eating a steak talking about life. Rob lost his father at the early age of 13. He tragically suffered a traumatic brain injury at 16 that left him with short term memory loss and many other affects. He was a troubled soul but in the face of life's disappointments, he would always preserve but in the end, it was all too much to handle. He wanted to be positive and people to smile. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. A funeral service is scheduled for 11:30am on August 22nd at Life and Legacy Funeral Home in Indian Trail. His ashes, along with Cleo's ashes, will be resting in peace in Sunset Memory Gardens, Mint Hill. Condolences may be offered at 6002 Manga Lane, Indian Trail, NC 28079.
