Ransom Grover Baucom Jr., a beloved figure in his community and a cherished member of his family, passed away on December 25, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on December 29, 1945, Ransom lived a life filled with love, hard work, and creativity that will be remembered by all who knew him.
Ransom was known affectionately as a great Daddy/Pops and PawPaw, titles reflecting the immense pride he felt for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family was the center of his universe, and he took joy in every moment spent with them. Ransom is survived by his loving daughter, Rachel (Brandon) Tarlton, and his son, Ransom (Ginny) Grover Baucom III. He leaves behind grandchildren, Kennedy Tarlton, Luke Godwin, Ethan Tarlton, Brooke (Justin) Presley, Bubba Johnson, Harleigh Baucom, Ransom "Levi" Baucom, Tucker Gaddy, and Teddyn Smith, as well as great-granddaughters Kendall Presley and Marlee Presley. Ransom also cherished his siblings, including Shirley Clay, Jane (Rick) Curtis, Robert (Beverly) Baucom, David Baucom, and Wade Baucom, along with many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
Ransom's personality was a warm beacon of kindness. He exemplified the spirit of generosity, famously known for giving "the shirt off his back" to those in need. He possessed an incredible ability to welcome anyone into his life, treating them as family regardless of blood ties. His compassion and non-judgmental nature made him a beloved figure to many.
A hard worker, Ransom dedicated his life to his profession until an injury forced him into retirement. Even then, he found joy in his hobbies, which included painting saw blades, cast iron pans, and trinkets. He had a remarkable talent for crafting walking sticks from wood he discovered during his work, showcasing both his creativity and resourcefulness. He enjoyed playing poker, watching westerns, and staying informed by keeping up with the news.
Ransom is preceded in death by his mother Mae Bell Haigler Baucom, his father Ransom Grover Baucom Sr., and brothers Joe Neal Baucom, Jerry Baucom, and Rayvon Baucom. He also mourned the loss of his nephew, Frankie Clay.
