Peggy was many things - a loving mother, a steady presence, a fierce protector, a gentle soul, and a source of laughter - but above all, she was deeply loved. She passed away on January 11, 2026, and the world feels quieter without her in it.
She had a way of showing up when it mattered most - making people feel at home, telling stories, giving advice, laughing loudly, and listening without judgement. Peggy gave so much of herself to the people she loved, often without asking for anything in return.
Peggy loved her children, her grandsons, and her great-granddaughters deeply. She enjoyed life's simple comforts, and those who knew her best will smile remembering her fondness for Railroad Mill snuff.
She graduated from Winchester High School, home of the Buffalos, in 1968.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Lockhart Jr., her parents, James and Ethel Mae Helms; her brothers, James "Butch" Helms; her sisters, Eleanor and Georgia Helms; her nephew, Brian O. Helms; and brother-in-love, George Fulwood Sr.
Peggy leaves behind three children: Misty (Lacy) Martin, Millicent (Robert) Lockhart, and Anthony Lockhart. She is also survived by her grandsons, Jalan Lockhart, Ashad Byrd, Asiah Byrd, and Amarion Byrd; her great-granddaughters, Skylar Lockhart and Kali Lockhart; her sister, Melbia Helms; and many nieces and nephews.
Peggy's love, strength, and laughter will live on through her family and all who were blessed to know her. She will be missed beyond words and remembered always.
Holland Funeral Service is serving the Lockhart Family.
