Nellie Burr Russell, 86, died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. She was the daughter of the late Sydney Armond Burr and Grace Humphries Burr. She was married to James Haywood Russell, who preceded her in death. Nellie was a faithful member of Bible Baptist Tabernacle for the last 48 years. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, August 18, 2019 at Bible Baptist Tabernacle. A visitation will be held prior to the church beginning at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow the service in the Church cemetery. She is survived by one son, Jerry (Madeline) of Norwood; two grandchildren, Matt Russell (Kelly) of Norwood, and Meredith Lowder (Kenny) of Enid, Oklahoma. Nellie had five great-grandchildren, Bailey Lee, Karley Russell, Matthew Russell, Summer Lowder, and Russell Lowder. Nellie had four brothers precede her in death, Bud Burr, Leon Burr, Edgar Burr, and Robert Burr. She has one surviving brother, Ronnie Burr of Rockingham. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Bible Baptist Tabernacle, 2900 Walkup Avenue, Monroe, NC 28110. Holland Funeral Service & Crematory is serving the family.
