Oredia Carlene Harmon Whitaker, 90, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2024, after a prolonged illness. Born on March 15, 1934, in Esto, Russell County, Kentucky, Oredia moved to Concord, NC in July 2024 to be closer to family. She lived most of her adult life in Somerset, Kentucky, and her retirement years at Wesley Manor Retirement Community in Louisville, Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Claude and Josie Zimmerman Harmon and her brother Lynn Harmon. She is survived by her sister-in-law: Shirley Harmon and nieces: Jo Robbins (Gene) and Fran Poropatic (Steve) and two great nephews: Nick Robbins (Kirsten) and Michael Poropatic.

Oredia was a graduate of Russell Springs High School and earned an associate's degree from Lindsay Wilson College, Columbia, Kentucky; bachelor's from University of Kentucky; and a master's degree in Home Economics from the University of Kentucky. Her career began as an extension agent with the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service program and ended with 39 years of service at Lake Cumberland Health Department where she managed the Women, Infants and Children's (WIC) Program in 39 Eastern Kentucky counties.

Oredia was a life-long United Methodist and regularly active in her churches, especially First United Methodist of Somerset. She loved to travel, visit friends, and cheer on UK Basketball teams. She was a wonderful aunt who spoiled her nieces and nephews.
