Obituary

Mary Helena "Sister" Bivens, age 60, of Monroe, NC departed her life on January 16, 2022, at Atrium Health Union. Mary Helena "Sister" Bivens was born March 27, 1961, in Monroe, NC to the late Ernest Bivens and Mary Helen Wingo-Bivens. Mary attended Monroe High School. She also attended Monroe Deliverance Center Church of God which was birthed out of her sister's Earnestine Bivens Robinson home in 1994. Mary was a loving and compassionate person. She enjoyed being in the company of her family, joking and being her demanding self but loving at the same time. She was given the name "Lilly" by her loved ones. Mary loved her parents, kids and family, but she has a special love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her special musician was R. Kelly. In the presence of her loved ones, Mary conducted all family functions. Mary had a larger-than-life personality, she had a genuine concern for the well-being of those around her. She was also very outspoken and passionately expressed her strong opinions and emotions. Mary was also preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Bivens and Mary Helen Wingo-Bivens; a sister, Earnestine Bivens-Robinson; a brother, Willie Herman Bivens. A special aunt, Myrtle Wingo-Pate. Mary leaves to cherish loving memories of her two daughters, Tara Marie Bivens of Pageland, SC and Antoinette Dominique Bivens (Colin Heath) of Monroe, NC. Six brothers, Edward Bivens (Darlene), Ernest Bivens Jr., James Massey (Terry), Ernest Donald Richardson, Ernest Franklin Bivens and Graylin Massey, all of Monroe, NC. Six sisters, Louise Alexander (Tyrone) of Monroe, NC, Elaine Barrett of Charlotte, NC, Bobbie Jean Richardson, Rosemary Richardson, Eva Richardson all of Monroe, NC and Olivia Bivens of Polkton, NC. One sister-in-law, Rosetta C. Bivens of Monroe, NC. Eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. One special niece and caregiver, Quwanda Bivens of Monroe, NC. A special great niece/granddaughter, Ty'Quavia Robinson of Monroe, NC. Cousins, other relatives and dear friends. Mary will be greatly missed by all that she loved and the ones that loved her. A public viewing will be held Monday January 24, 2021 from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM Holland Funeral Service & Crematory Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday January 25, 2021 at 3:00 PM at Holland Funeral Service & Crematory Ms. Bivens will be laid to rest at Suncrest Cemetery. Holland Funeral Service & Crematory is serving the family.
