Lena Maxine Deese, 83 years of age, of Union County, passed away Wednesday December 10, 2025 at Brookdale of Union County.Lena was born July 13, 1942 in Union County to the late Ellis Farley Newsome and the late Mamie Jane Smith Newsome.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00pm on Monday, December 15, 2025 at Midway Baptist Church, 4615 Olive Branch Rd, Wingate, NC 28174. Ms. Deese will be laid to rest at the Wingate City Cemetery immediately following the service.

The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 11:00am until 11:45am.

She was preceded in death by husband John B. Deese, brother, Carmen Rushing; four sisters, Margie Haigler, Odell Beaver, Jessie Jordan and Polly Granillo.

Survived by her brother Pete Newsome, sister Billy French, and an abundance of nieces and nephews.
