Florence White left this world on April 14, 2021 after a long struggle with dementia. While dementia robbed her of her mental capacities over the years, her body remained strong to the very end. Florence was born on July 31, 1919 in Boone County, West Virginia. She loved dancing and would spend time with her older sister, Helen, so she could sneak out to dance. She loved telling the story of how she met her loving husband, Claude White at a square dance. They were married for 63 years before he preceded her in death in 2000.
Florence was a woman of great faith and could always be heard singing or humming a hymn. It is a comfort knowing that she is singing now with all her old friends and family members.
Florence enjoyed helping people and would often be found taking things to those in the hospital or taking food to those in need in the community. She was a member of Naomi Baptist Church and in the later years attended Mill Creek Baptist Church.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Katie Walker; and her siblings, Helen, Jack, and Marvin. She is survived by a brother, Herbert and two two children: Claudette Bonham of Monroe, NC, and Vernon White (Kathy) of Ripley WV. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Cindy Bonham (Becky) of Charlotte, NC, Ashli Childers (Dan) of Lexington, KY, Amber Tackett (Dewayne) of Evans, WV, and Mark White (Jaime) of Ravenswood, WV. Florence was also blessed with six great-grandchildren, Brandon, Brooke, Alexis, Lily, Addison, and Noah.
A service celebrating Florence's life will be held at Montgomery Memorial Park Mausoleum on Saturday, April 17, 2021. There will be a short visitation at 12:00pm followed by a shorter service at 1:00pm. The family asks that masks be worn due to Covid-19 concerns.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Florence's name to Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110.
Holland Funeral Service is serving the White Family.
