Doris Loretta Prince Culpepper was born on July 26, 1939, to the late Moses and Matilda Prince. She confessed Christ at an early age and united with Christian Valley Baptist Church, beginning a lifelong walk of faith that shaped her character and purpose.
Doris received her early education in Birmingham, Alabama, and graduated from Parker High School. She went on to further her education at Alabama State University, where she laid the foundation for a dedicated career in education.
She began her professional journey as a classroom teacher in Birmingham and later served with distinction as a resource teacher and Program Specialist with the Birmingham Board of Education. A respected educator and mentor, Doris was known for her commitment to excellence and her compassionate approach to both teaching and leadership.
Doris met and married James Hamilton, and together they were blessed with one daughter, Sherri Katrena Hamilton Thomas. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved daughter, Sherri K. Thomas; her precious grandchildren: Robbie, Ryan, and Riley Thomas; her sister, Jacqueline P. Pettway; and her brother, Tyrone Prince. Doris also leaves behind a host of extended family members, former colleagues, dear friends, and church family who will forever hold her in their hearts.
She is preceded in death by her siblings: Moses Prince, Jr., Arena P. Eccleston, William Prince, Johnny Prince, Elizabeth P. Fox, Maxine P. Johnson, Costella P. Thompson, and Patricia Yvonne P. Henley.
Doris Loretta Prince Culpepper's life was a testament to faith, family, and service. Her gentle spirit, wise counsel, and unwavering love will remain a guiding light for all who were blessed to know her.
