Betty Harrington Griffin, 94, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2024. Born June 4, 1930, in Wadesboro, NC, she was the daughter of the late CJ Harrington and Mamie G. Harrington. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Griffin, daughter, Ann Griffin Clawson, and brother, Charles Harrington.

Betty's educational journey took her to Wadesboro High School and Woman's College (now UNC Greensboro) where she graduated with her bachelor's degree in physical education. She dedicated many years to teaching, concluding her career as a seventh-grade science teacher at East Union Middle School.

Beyond her professional life, Betty had a zest for life. She enjoyed traveling, watching movies, playing bridge, and cheering on the Tarheels. Some of her travel adventures included Alaska, China, the Holy Land, and the Galápagos Islands. Betty was an active member of Wingate Baptist Church for over 50 years and served as a deacon and on many committees. Betty (otherwise known as Mawmaw or Gaga) also loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Betty's impact extended beyond her family; she was deeply loved by her community. Her memory will be cherished by those who knew her.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Betty will be 4 PM, Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Wingate Baptist Church. A private burial will be held later. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 24, 2024 in the Wingate Baptist Church Fellowship Hall from 3:00 -3:45PM.

Those left to cherish her memory include son, Eddie Griffin (Sheila); daughter, Jane Griffin; grandchildren, Bradley Griffin (Jessica), Jennifer Edwards (Tony), Mallory Long (Tanner), Charlie Clawson; great-grandchildren, Ethan Edwards, Emma Griffin, Ellie Edwards, Griffin Edwards and Grey Long.
