Ms. Barbara Helms Mullis, 86, passed away December 19, 2022. Ms. Mullis was born in Union County, NC on July 7, 1936 to the late Roscoe Jefferson Helms and Kathleen Doris Simpson Helms.

Barbara was always the life of the party. She could light up any room with her wit and her spunky personality. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and loved her friends fiercely. She was a dedicated member of Sutton Park Baptist Church for over seventy years, serving as the youth director, church secretary, treasurer, choir director and pianist for many of them. She was also a talented artist, seamstress, and crafter. For twenty-five years, she designed and created most of the costumes worn by the dancers of the Union County Youth Ballet. She claimed most of the dancers families as her own, and built strong bonds with them over the years. She always looked forward to spending time with her family and friends, planning parties, vacations, and holidays with great enthusiasm. She also found great delight in history and genealogy, and spent many hours researching her family roots.

A service to celebrate the life of Ms. Mullis will be held at 1:30 PM Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Holland Funeral Service & Crematory. A visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 12:00 PM. Following the service Ms. Mullis will be laid to rest at Lakeland Memorial Park Cemetery

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Bengie Mullis (Sharron); daughter, Bonita Simpson (Richard); grandchildren, Jonathan Mullis, Tara Beaver (Grant); great-granddaughter, Aria Beaver; and her caregiver, Nicholle McGhee.

In addition to her parents Ms. Mullis was preceded in passing by her husband, Boyce Hamilton Mullis.
