lifelong friends.
In the mid-50's, Anita met James, "Jay" W. Walsh and they were married on April
14, 1956 in Providence, R.I. They moved to Deep River, Ct. in 1957 when Jay
took a teaching job at Essex Elementary. They were married for over 24 years
until his death in November 1980. They raised 7 children together. In the early
80's another daughter joined the Walsh Gang; then there were 8.
On October 7, 1994, Anita married Joseph T. Durigan in Essex, CT and they
were happily married for just over 3 years, until Joe died in December 1997.
Through this marriage, Anita gained 5 stepchildren.

through 9 th Grade and attended Mt. Pleasant High School and graduated Top in
her class in 1945.
After graduation, she worked in the Providence School system during the school
year and spent summers on the Cape working at the Cape Cod Inn. After she
became a mother, Anita was a homemaker and mother until her children were all
in school and worked part-time at Essex Elementary School as a Teacher's Aid.
In June 1974, she began a 20 year career working as a secretary in the
Superintendent's Office for the Regional School District #4.
In the early 1980's, Anita spent some time traveling overseas to Ireland, England,
and Italy with some dear friends and visiting her son, Terry in Hawaii. After
marrying Joe, they traveled to Australia, California, and again she visited Hawaii
with him. They lived in Connecticut and Florida. Anita took many trips around the
country to visit her children and grandchildren. In 2017, she moved to North
Carolina to live with her daughter, Patrice and her family.
Growing up Anita had happy memories of family sing-alongs with her
grandmother playing the piano or her cousins playing the guitars or banjos. She
remembered going to the movies on Saturdays and family reunions at Roger
Williams Park. Anita enjoyed knitting and in her 20's and she was part of a group
of friends called the Knit Wits Club. She was an avid mystery novel reader;
especially Agatha Christie and owned nearly all of them. She reveled in watching
movie and T.V. mysteries. She was a member of a Book Club with some close
friends. Anita loved baking and made the best pie crust ever! She was fond of
visits to Mile Creek Beach. Anita volunteered at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic
Church in Essex. She was an avid Scrabble player, a master Jenga player, and
found pleasure and challenge in watching Jeopardy each evening.
Anita was an amazingly strong and resilient woman, a true friend, a loving
mother and Nana to all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She
was a true friend, had a wonderful sense of humor, and was known for her
