Maxine Sheppard Starnes, 86, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024. She was born December 7, 1938, in Bryson City, North Carolina to the late William Kreed Sheppard Sr. and Ruth Frisbee Sheppard.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Jeannie Starnes Laney, brothers, William Sheppard Jr., Tony Sheppard, and Mickey Sheppard; and sister, Shirley Ann Nicks.

She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Louis Starnes of Monroe, North Carolina, brothers, Steve Sheppard (Diane) of Shelby, North Carolina, Richard Roy Sheppard (Ann) of Shelby, North Carolina, and Kenneth Sheppard (Louise) of Pumpkin Center, North Carolina; sister, Doris Rhoton of Sherrills Ford, North Carolina, sons, Lewey Starnes of Monroe, North Carolina, Toby Starnes (Trudy) of Monroe, North Carolina, Baden Starnes (Crystal) of Monroe, North Carolina; daughter, Markey Laney of Waxhaw, North Carolina, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at 2:00pm at Holland Funeral Service located at 806 Circle Drive Monroe, NC 28112. Mrs. Starnes will be laid to rest at Mt. Calvary Baptist cemetery immediately following the service.

The family would like to acknowledge Anson Health and Rehabilitation of Wadesboro and Tillery Compassionate Care for the wonderful care that Mrs. Starnes received. Additionally the family would like to express their gratitude to Mrs. Frances Maxwell for being mom's roommate and friend.
