IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mrs. Laura
Sims
August 23, 1967 – December 28, 2024
Laura Meyer Sims, born on August 23, 1967, fought cancer to a final draw December 28, 2024. Laura was a devoted follower of Christ, mother, wife and friend. Laura was a graduate in Economics from Wake Forest University. Early on she worked for various banks in Charlotte in many roles from Branch Manager, Trainer, to Securities Regulation and Compliance. Laura's most significant and enduring attribute and contribution is and will always be her commitment to Christ and her family.
Laura precedes husband, Philip Sims; son, Tyler Sims (19); Daughter, Avery Sims (16); Mother, Ilse Meyer; Sister, Lisa Corwin; brother, Matt Meyer; mother-in- law, Rachel Sims; and countless other friends and family. Laura was preceded by her father Ray Meyer in October 2023 and beloved aunt Lorraine in November of this year.
Laura's faith in Christ was foundational to everything she was and wanted to be. Her early church years were spent at St. Giles Presbyterian church in Charlotte. Many of Laura's lifelong friends and groups originated there. Laura met the love of her life, Philip Sims, while attending Forest Hill church also in Charlotte. Laura and Phil were married in 2002.
Laura loved her family and was committed to ensuring we honored and pointed our kids to Christ in all that she did. She stepped away from banking when her oldest son, Tyler was born to devote full time to that most important of jobs. She persevered in homeschooling her children even after her diagnosis of pancreatic cancer in 2012. Laura loved to cook and was incredible at it and her commitment to her family was clear ensuring we ate together at the table nearly every night. Her actions of love and commitment to the family were of uncommunicable value to those she loved and were a model and encouragement to all.
A time to celebrate Laura's life together is planned on Thursday, January 2nd, 2025 at Church of the Redeemer, located at 1001 Redeemer Way in Indian Trail, NC. Visitation and Greeting will start at 6:00 pm followed by a service at 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to HELP Pregnancy Center in Monroe NC.
Holland Funeral Service is serving the Sims Family.
