On Wednesday January 26, 2022, Kathy Mae Hinson Phifer ran into the arms of Jesus. Kathy prepared her whole life for this moment, to know her was to love her and she unashamedly loved Jesus. She was born February 19, 1946 in Union Co to the late Ray and Flossie Hinson. She is survived by her husband of 59 years W.D. Phifer along with her daughter Renee Guffey (Jimmy) and son Jeffrey Phifer, all residents of Wingate N.C. Also survived is her brother Billy Ray Hinson of Monroe, NC . Kathy leaves behind so much love and wisdom in her grandchildren and great grandchildren, all who loved her dearly! She is preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Rose Phifer; sisters, Louise Griffin, Bernice Keziah and her brothers, Harry Hinson and Charles Hinson. Kathy retired from the CIty of Monroe Police Department after faithfully serving for many years in the administration department working as Secretary Chief of Police. She also served in finance and records for the family painting business for 25+ years. After retiring Kathy continued to keep in touch with several friends from the police department along with going to the beach as much as possible. Kathy was surrounded by not just family, but friends and neighbors that loved her dearly. She was viewed as the neighborhood "mawmaw" and always willing to help someone whenever she could. She lived a life of love and kindness, something we could take a lesson in and strive to do better at. A public viewing will be held from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM Saturday, February 5 , 2022 at Holland Funeral Service & Crematory. Kathy will be laid to rest following a private graveside service at Austin Grove Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Austin Grove Baptist Church. Holland Funeral Service & Crematory is serving the family.
