Hilda Joe Harkey Sowell, 81, passed away Monday, May 27, 2024, in Cheraw, SC. She was born April 5, 1943, in Charlotte, a daughter to the late Ervin and Viola Harkey. She is also preceded in death by a son, Jerry "Dudie" Sowell, daughter in law, Kim Sowell, granddaughter, Melissa Heath, brothers, Butch Harkey and Johnny Harkey and sister, Kay White. She was a supportive and loving wife and mother.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, May 31, 2024, in the Mausoleum Chapel of Sunset Memory Gardens 8901 Lawyers Road Mint Hill, NC 28227. The family will receive friends Friday, May 31, 2024, at Holland Funeral Service 806 Circle Drive Monroe, NC 28112 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Left behind to cherish memories of Hilda are her husband of 63 years, James Sowell Sr., sons, James Sowell Jr. (Kim), Larry Sowell (Lisa), Ervin "Pumpkin" Sowell (Missie), George Sowell, Tracy Sowell (Lisa), Steven "Porkchop" Sowell, grandson, JD Sowell, brothers Larry Harkey, Arthur Harkey, Jerry Harkey and George Harkey. First born granddaughter that Hilda and Jimmy raised for the first 12 years from birth, Alicia " Super Duper" DeVault (David) and great-granddaughters, Lucy and Ella DeVault, and sister-in-law, Jean Prince.

The family will be receiving friends at the home 725 Sheridan Oliver Road, Ruby, SC 29741.
