Mrs. Gloria Carol Courtney, 71, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2023. She was born October 31, 1951 to the late John Henry Jenkins and Hallie Stegall Jenkins. She had a Bachelors of Nursing Degree and worked as a registered nurse for 30 plus years at Union Memorial Hospital, later known as Atrium Health Union. She also worked as a Med-Surgery Instructor at South Piedmont Community College in Monroe and at L.L. Polk Campus in Polkton.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, June 25, 2023 at Philadelphia Baptist Church,  5709 Philadelphia Church Rd, Marshville, NC 28103. The family will receive friends from 2:00pm until 2:45pm at the church prior to the service. Mrs. Courtney will be laid to rest at the church cemetery immediately following the service.

In addition to her parents, Gloria is preceded in passing by her daughter, Alisha Carol Starnes, and infant baby girl; her brother, J. Mike Jenkins; brothers-in-law, Eddie Courtney, and Al Usher; and mother-in-law, Arlene Courtney.

Gloria is survived by her loving husband, Chris Courtney; children, Billi Starnes, and Greg Starnes (Stacy); step-sons, Justin Courtney (Blair), and Joshua Courtney (Emily); grandchildren, AJ Starnes, Leejon Tadlock, Julia Martin (Leslie), Jonathan Starnes, and Brianna Zike; great-grandchildren, Mathieu Zike, Gunnar Courtney, Grant Courtney, Hayden Courtney, and Camryn Courtney; sisters-in-law, Sheree Jenkins, and Robin Usher; brother-in-law, Tracy Courtney (Sharon); father-in-law, Dwight Courtney; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Gloria will be truly missed and cherished in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.
