Elzena "Zee" Stokes, 91, of Charlotte formerly of Monroe. passed away Thursday, September 5, 2024, at her residence, surrounded by her family, Zee was born in Union County on May 8, 1933, a daughter of the late Gus and Bessie Haigler. She is also preceded in death by brothers, Jerry Haigler, Elder Brice Haigler, Hilton Haigler, Carl Haigler, and a sister, Polly Sutherland.

Zee is survived by her husband of 69 years, Charles Stokes, two sons, Dale Stokes (Cindy), Randy Stokes (Lura) two daughters, Carol Bayne, Nancy Hammond (Charles), nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren. And a brother, Donald Haigler (Jane), 2 sisters, Pat Polk, Sue Boyd and several nieces and nephews.

She retired from Belk Store Services, was a Lifetime member with Ladies Auxiliary (VFW Post 1160), loved playing Bingo and watching her grandchildren play sports. She loved Country music and her favorite artist was Alan Jackson.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Monday, September 9, 2024, at Union Grove Primitive Baptist Church 3619 Morgan Mill Rd, Monroe, NC 28110 with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 12:50 PM at the church prior to the service.
