IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mrs. Dolores Jean Bruce
Brown
February 5, 1954 – April 1, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Dolores Jean Bruce Brown, 71, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who left us on Tuesday, April 01, 2025. Born February 5, 1954 in Asheville, NC to the late Harry Donald Bruce and Wilma Jean Bruce.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Daryl Eugene Brown, son, Drew Jackson Brown (Lisa), grandsons, Ethan Brown and Owen Brown, brother, Donald Bruce (Donna), nieces, Hannah Bruce, and Shelby Brown, nephews, Jordan Bruce, Kevin Davis, and Sean Davis.
Growing up, she played on church basketball and softball teams that her dad coached, and she was better than some of the boys on the team - queen of the 3-pointers per Daryl. She learned sewing skills from her mother and even made some of her own clothes. She helped her dad harvest the cane for making molasses which became his specialty. She also sang in the church choir for years.
Over the years, living in Charlotte and then Columbia. Her profession was accounting, but mostly within the screen-printing industry at FB Johnston. She played on the company volleyball team, softball team, and took good care of all the employees including bringing in special foods and treats, whether meatloaf for someone's birthday, or candies for the holidays.
Dolores was devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Once she and Daryl retired, they moved to Waxhaw to be near Drew and his family. She enjoyed her grandchildren more than anything. Driving to all of their games, even when they still lived 2 hours away, just to see them play. This past week she got to see her youngest grandson, Owen, play in his volleyball game where he nailed his serve for the first time in which she yelled and cheered louder than any other fans. She always marked the boys' height on her doorframe to see how much they'd grown, and once her oldest grandson, Ethan, got taller than her, he was delighted that she had to use a step stool to measure him. She also loved and spoiled her own son, Drew. She would run his work's yearly warehouse sale, meet him for lunch each week, and often discussed their much beloved Tarheel basketball team.
Dolores had a presence that made others want to be near her. She was known for her kindness, generosity, and knowledge on just about everything. She loved spending time in her garden with her beautiful irises which she often split to give to friends and neighbors, cracking pecans with Daryl and the grandkids to make into her famous pecan chocolate chip pies, sewing and mending clothes and lovies, eating crab legs with her family, finding treasures at estate sales with Daryl, and more than anything she enjoyed doing for others and making them feel special. She would make food and treats for her son, Drew's work, such as dessert platters for holidays or making bbq and all the sides just because. If you mentioned you liked something, she was sure to get it or make it for you again.
