Mrs. Debra Kay Johnson, 72 years of age, passed away Thursday, March 2nd, 2023, at Atrium Health Union.

Debra Kay was born July 29th, 1950, in Monroe, North Carolina, to the late Lonnie and Doris Laney. She married Charles Johnson and together they had a beautiful family. She was employed with the Union County Public Schools for 30 plus years, where many remember her as a beloved school bus driver and cafeteria worker. Debra Kay loved spending time with her family and friends, laughing, and always wearing a smile. She was a wonderful, loving, and caring person. To know her was to love her.

In addition to her parents, Debra Kay was preceded in death by her two brothers, Gary Laney and Walter Brooks; her beloved husband, Charles Johnson; and her baby boy, Steven Johnson.

Debra Kay is survived by her children, Junior Moser, Donna Newell (Bill), Charles Johnson (Shorty), Stanley Johnson, Ann Johnson, Tommy Johnson, and Jamie Johnson; and daughter-in-law, Kim Johnson McManus. Also left to treasure her memory are her 19 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 1 great, great-grandchild.

Services for Mrs. Debra Kay are as follows: Monday, March 6th will be family night from 6pm-8pm at Holland Funeral Service, Monroe, NC. The funeral will be held at Antioch Baptist Church, Lancaster, SC, at 3pm on Tuesday, March 7th, followed by the burial ceremony at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Monroe, NC. The family will be accepting flowers and donations at Holland Funeral Service.
