Willie J. Thompson, age 84 of Indian Trail, North Carolina passed away Thursday, March 10, 2022 at his Home surrounded by his loving wife Earlene and three daughters.
Willie was born in Alabama to his parents, Isaac and Cassie Lee (Robinson) Thompson. His parents were sharecroppers and later moved from Alabama to Delaware. Willie grew up in Milford, Delaware and attended Benjamin Banneker Elementary/Middle School. He furthered his education and obtained certifications, and licenses with his various employers throughout his career.
He met and married one of the local church girl members in Boston, MA after he relocated from Delaware. The Girl of his dreams and the Love of his life was "Earlene Tate". Out of that Loving union they shared four children, Quenton Rydell 3/29/60 Quentena Renee 10/15/61, Quenleasa Raine 9/17/64, and Quendrida Relette
5/13/77.
Willie was definitely a family man which very much believed in being a provider, He definitely had strong work ethics and wanted the best for his wife and four children.
Willie, loved to play around and tease his kids.. He played kick ball, dodge ball, red-light green. He would toss his kids on his back, shoulders, he would put Tena and Leasa and later Drida on his feet us girls hung onto his leg and swung as he walked. He had nick names for all four of his kids.. Quenton was: Boy, Jive Turkey; Tena was: Heifer, Chana; Leasa was: Leasse, Rotten, Rot Gut; Drida was: Dreeky Peeky
Willie had serval employers throughout his working career. He started out as a farm picker, lumber yard worker, a Presser at a clothing manufacturing company.
Willie had larger goals he wanted to seek other than a Presser. He wanted to relocate out of Boston and found an opportunity to relocate to California in July 1966. He furthered his employment as working as a Janitor with Universal Studios, then he became a union employee as a Set Decorator and then a Property Master in the TV and MotionPicture Industry. While being a Union employee he worked on, Gunsmoke, How the West was Won, Happy Days, LaVerne and Shirley, Hill Street Blues, Boys in the Hood, Ghost Dad. Willie has met many TV and Movie Stars during this employment.
Along with working in the Motion Picture Industry he was a foster father of displaced children. Later throughout the years he and Earlene learned about Group Homes. He and his wife started and became the Owners of Wilene's Regrowth Center.
Willie always wanted to be a homeowner because he never liked paying rent to a landlord and sharing walls with neighbors. Willie, his wife Earlene had purchased their first house in Santa Susana, CA.. He was 29 years old!! Later throughout the years, each house he and his wife purchased was newer and larger. Willie retired from the motion picture industry and relocated to Autryville, NC with a (Dallas TV show) looking house. He felt like he was in Heaven. He LOVED that house and never wanted to leave… Unfortunately, with him aging, he was influenced to move to the Charlotte, NC to be closer to his kids, but, not to his liking! He was satisfied in Indian Trail, but always wanted his Autryville home back. His kids and grandson Rydell were a daily help.
Willie had a heart of Gold there wasn't too much he wouldn't do for his parents and mother-in-law. He showed his heart by buying them both a house to retire in.
Willie was a prideful man and can be a man of few words. He was a happy fun-loving man, he loved the attention from family and friends, by showing his big smile.
Willie was so very well loved that he had a host of nieces and nephews that called him Uncle/Dad.. Not only the nieces and nephews called him that, but the Foster Children, Group Home Children and other Friends of the family felt in their hearts to call him Dad too.
Willie really loved his eleven Grandchildren more than anything… John R. Robinson Jr. 2/22/82, Driesa L. Parker 3/23/85, Asia S. Frierson 5/3/91, LaShanique E. Thompson 6/27/92, Bria D. He had three great grandchildren: Juniya Parker 9/15/05, Christopher J. Parker 3/28/12 and Aliyanna Boyk 2/02/14.
