Obituary

William Michael "Mike" Calhoun, died peacefully in Monroe, NC on Sunday, July 28th, 2024, on his 67th birthday. His two daughters, Taryn Calhoun and Tamara Fischer, were at his bedside. Preceding him in death was his father, Robert Kendrick Calhoun, mother, Mittie Joyce Tajirian, and sister, Suzanne Calhoun. He is survived by his sisters Katherine Lee Calhoun, Adrienne Tajirian, and Valerie Santerian, as well as two daughters, nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Mike was born on July 28th, 1957 in Mobile, Alabama. He spent his childhood between two households, establishing roots in Louisiana, Alabama, and Delaware. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1976 and served 20 years as a Satellite and Wideband Communications Equipment Craftsman. Mike retired from the Air Force as a Gulf War Veteran in 1996, serving his last 4 years at Eielson AFB, Alaska. Following his retirement from the military he worked in electrical engineering for various companies across the United States and on the island of Guam. He was devoted to his post-military career and eagerly grew with the industry, beginning as a draftsman and working his way up to a design engineer and modeler. He worked full-time until his stroke in March of 2024.

Mike was a talented musician, poet, and cook. He was passionate about finding the silver lining in all situations and always aspired to create more happiness for others. He loved taking care of animals and learning about new technologies. He was a hard worker, an adored father, and the kindest friend. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and coworkers.

Per his wishes, Mike was cremated and his ashes will be spread on the 1st anniversary of his death in places that were special to his heart. An online memorial has been created by his daughters and can be viewed and contributed to by following this link: https://www.kudoboard.com/boards/KCLEGFxS.
