Obituary

William "Bill" Richard Foster, Jr. of Indian Trail, North Carolina passed away on July 15, 2022. He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1950 to Mary Esther Civil Foster and William Richard Foster, both deceased. Bill was an astute businessman, most recently owning and operating C.R. Nesbit Co., a construction company. He served as past president of the Union County Home Builders Association. Bill was a 1968 graduate of South Mecklenburg High School and subsequently graduated from Appalachian State University earning both his undergraduate and graduate degrees there. He appreciated good music and good books. He seemed to be knowledgeable about almost any topic that arose. Bill enjoyed sports, especially baseball, fishing and golf, as well as his cars. He was a long-time member of Rolling Hills Country Club where he thoroughly enjoyed a unique camaraderie with some of his best friends and could be seen there often with a Coke in hand playing golf. He had many good friends who held a special place in his life and in his heart. Bill loved his family dearly and watched over them faithfully and fearlessly. He was deeply loved in return. He was married to his college sweetheart, Emily Blackwood Foster, for 48 years and was immensely proud of their three children and their families, finding joy in their company. He had genuine affection for his pets, especially his much-loved dogs, and cherished them as he did his family. He is survived by his wife Emily; his son William Richard Foster, lll of Dunwoody, Georgia and his two children Liam and Evelyn; his daughter Brannon and her husband Will Howie of Weddington, North Carolina and their three girls Julia, Raleigh and Frances; and his son Scott and his wife Hannah Foster of Gretna, Nebraska. Surviving Bill is his brother John Foster who was consistently caring and steadfast. Bill had a special connection with nieces Jennifer Foster and Jacklyn Vo (Binh) and his nephew John Thomas Foster. He is survived by a sister Mary Carol Whitney (Grant) as well. In addition, he leaves behind several beloved cousins in Greenville, South Carolina with whom he shared a strong bond. They are Joy Wagner, Frank Foster, and Alan Foster. His cousin Jack Foster predeceased him. Bill will be remembered as an intelligent man with a strong will, a quick wit, a sharp sense of humor and a gentlemanly manner. He offered strength, wisdom, comfort and entertaining conversation to those surrounding him. It was important to him to stand by his convictions. He was one of a kind. His memorial service will be officiated by The Reverend Dr. Frank (Duke) H. Ison and is to be held at 11:00 a.m. on September 24, 2022, at Weddington United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children-Greenville, S.C. Holland Funeral Service is serving his family.
