Obituary

Sunday February 6, 2022, W.D. Phifer was welcomed into eternity with Jesus. Born June 24, 1943 to the late Robert Lee Phifer and Nora Mildred Mills Phifer of Wingate, NC. Just losing his precious wife only 11 short days ago, W.D is proceeded in death by his soul mate Kathy Phifer. Also proceeded in death is his daughter in law, Rose Phifer; brother in law, Ronald Edwards; and niece Ginger Counts. W.D was born into a family of hard workers. They not only have an amazing work ethic, but made Jesus, family and community a priority. He leaves behind so much love with his children Jeff Phifer and Renee (Jimmy) Guffey of Wingate NC. His siblings Dean Phifer, Sadie Phillips (Tommy), Doris Edwards, and Vickie Phifer all on Wingate and Gary Phifer (Kathy) of Marshville, NC. W.D carried on the family painting business where he and his son were well known for trusted for their painting abilities. He painted for well over 40 years. He was also a collector of anything antique and never met a stranger. He loved to talk. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. They always looked forward to go to pawpaws, there was always a great story or life lesson to be told. Much like his loving wife, he was known as the neighborhood pawpaw. He loved to instill old school knowledge into little minds and old minds alike. He would plant his yearly neighborhood garden where all were welcome. He loved people and you could see his love for Jesus in him. He was such an amazing man. He was a fighter, and held on til the very end, but pawpaw would want us to tell you, the greatest decision you can ever make in life is accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. That is the only decision that will carry over into death. If you are not saved or have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, reach out to one our family members or a local church. Jesus loves us way to much to go through life without ever knowing him. Those who would like to sign the register may do so from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM Friday, February 11, 2022 at Holland Funeral Service & Crematory. W.D. will be laid to rest following a private graveside service at Austin Grove Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Austin Grove Baptist Church.
