Obituary

Warren Grant Rape, 78, of Monroe, passed away Friday, December 30, 2022, at his home in Tradesville SC.

There will be a graveside viewing at 11:00 am followed by a service Saturday January 7th at 11:30 am in Monroe at Lakeland Memorial Park. The service will be officiated by Elder Richard Broadway.

Warren was born January 11th, 1944, on his family farm in the Wolf Pond area outside of Monroe, North Carolina to the late Hayden and late Gladys Rape.

He was also preceded in death by brothers; Homer Rape & Ralph Rape as well as sisters; Shirley Floyd, Elsie Baer, Ellen Hargett, Lillian Little & Evelyn Deese; infant son, Keith Rape; and stepdaughter, Anna York.

Survivors include son, Eric (Liz) Rape of Monroe as well as their son; daughter, Callie (David) Green of Monroe; son, Josh Rape of Tradesville; son, Josiah Rape of Monroe; grandchildren, Oliver and Carter Green; sister, Dora Birmingham of Monroe. He also has many beloved nieces and nephews.

Warren taught Auto Mechanics at the Union County Career Center in the 1985-1996. He was very proud of his students and was a mentor to them after they graduated. He also taught driver's education for Union County Public Schools. He also owned and operated Community Auto until he retired in 2006.

Warren was a member of the Union County Antique Tractor club for many years. He will always be remembered for his love of engines. On any given day he was easily found in his shop restoring vintage Dodge cars or Massey Harris tractors to their prime condition. His restorations have been and will continue to be shown around local tractor shows and parades. Warren was also passionate about his garden, taking his dogs for their daily walks, and most importantly, spending time with his family and his beloved dog Sammie.

He will always be remembered as a loving father and "Papaw" to his family and they will continue to honor his memory and legacy.
