Thomas Lee Smith, 59, native of Union County, passed away April 6, 2021. He was a melter at ATI since March of 1980. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his boys and valued friends. He never met a stranger and was always sharing his knowledge of hunting and fishing to educate and help guide the new sportsman. His dedication to his faith, family, and work speaks volumes of the man and friend he truly was. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, April 9, 2021 at Bible Baptist Tabernacle Church, 2900 Walkup Ave, Monroe, NC 28110. Visitation will be held from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on April 8, 2021 at Bible Baptist Tabernacle Church. Tommy is survived by his wife of 31 years, Bonnie Smith of Union County; two sons, Anthony Smith (Ashley), and Tyler Smith (Courtney); four grandchildren, Gannon, Haven, Liam, and Abel; parents, Elbert and Iris Smith; sister, Tina Martin (John); brothers, Jeff Smith (Ginger), and Jonathan Smith (Jennifer), and mother-in-law, Birdie Chaney. He is preceded in death by his brother, Tony Smith; and father-in-law, Bill Chaney.
