IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mr. Shafqat
Rahman
January 15, 1954 – November 25, 2022
Shafqat ("Shaf") Rahman passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, November 25th, 2022. He was born on January 15th, 1954, to Dr. Abul Qasem Badiur Rahman and Hasina Rahman in Mymensingh, Bangladesh. He was the second of four children, and is survived by his younger brothers, Sadad Rahman and Shahzad Rahman. He is predeceased by his older sister, Sameena Sarwar.
Although born in Bangladesh, Shaf received his education abroad, attending high school in Alexandria, Egypt, followed by his college studies at Tarkio College in Missouri (United States). While in college, he was on the school's soccer team and was also a member of the Sigma Pi fraternity. He graduated in 1975 with a degree in Business Administration.
Shaf began his professional career as a sales manager in the Midwest for several national and multinational companies. He later worked in commercial real estate in Western Massachusetts and then in Charlotte, North Carolina. With an extraordinary charm and natural sales ability, Shaf spent the last decade of his career as the leading sales consultant at Griffin Motor in Monroe, North Carolina.
Shaf met and married English born, and Texas bred Wendy Heffington on December 16th, 2000, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was previously married to Leah Bronsther (nee Hurwitz) . Shaf is survived by his two children, Shannan Rahman (b. 1981) and Jordan Rahman (b. 1990). He was also a caring stepfather to Wendy's four children (Brian, Jessica, Cody and Sean).
Shaf was incredibly loving and loyal to both family and friends. He was described as the "life of the party" and as possessing "amazing chi". Shaf spoke a multitude of languages and was an ardent David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix fan. In his leisure time, he enjoyed rooting for his beloved Charlotte Panthers, cooking a variety of Bengali dishes, boating on Lake Wylie, dressing in all pastels, eating Texas barbeque (lovingly prepared by his wife Wendy), and proudly cheering on his children as they progressed both personally and professionally in adulthood.
A service and celebration of his life will be held Monday, December 5th at Holland Funeral Service, 806 Circle Drive, Monroe, North Carolina. Visitation will be held at 1pm, followed by a service at 2pm. Immediately after the service, a reception with the family will be held at Hilltop Restaurant.
His family looks forward to honoring his life and legacy with all those he touched with his generous spirit, kind heart and warm smile.
Shaf never met a stranger, as everyone he encountered became a friend.
