Robert Durl Laney, 79, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, June 19, 2023. He was preceded in passing by his father, Fairley, his brothers Henry and Dannie, and two infant daughters. Robert is survived by his wife of 21 years, Cindy Laney, his mother, Helen Collins, his children Mike (Laura) Laney, Angie (Jim) Nyborg, Valerie Starnes and Crystal (Kenneth) Mode, his step-children David (Leah) Price and Brad (Amanda) Price, as well as 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his remaining brothers: Irby (Janice), David (Judy), Harvey (Sandy), Perry (Lou Ann) and Joseph Laney.

Robert was born in Union County and was the owner of Robert Laney Landscaping & Septic. He was known for his dedication to a job well done, and for his elaborately decorated trucks which often featured Looney Tunes characters including his favorite, Yosemite Sam. Robert promoted his business with personalized ball caps, and everyone attending who has a cap is invited to bring it to the ceremony. He always enjoyed his work, but also appreciated traveling with family and friends in his later years. Robert was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

A service to celebrate Robert's life will be held at 12:30 PM on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 6907 Gus Eubanks Road, Monroe, NC. A visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
