Robert Olden Helms Jr., 85, of Monroe NC, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 28, 2024.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00pm on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Shiloh Baptist Church, 2301 N Rocky River Rd, Monroe, NC 28110. Mr. Helms will be laid to rest in the church cemetery immediately following the service. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:30pm until 2:45pm.

Robert was born July 6, 1939, in Monroe, NC, to the late Robert O. Helms Sr. and Bessie Aycoth Helms. He was preceded in death by his sister, Colene Harris Norton, brother, Arnold O. Helms, and grandson, Benjamin Helms.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth (Helms) Helms married for 63 years, daughter, Deborah Johnson (Bob), son, Robert O. Helms III (Brenda), grandchildren, Brooke Justice (Johnny), Robert O. Helms IV, and Hannah Helms; great granddaughters, Savannah and Alaynah; his sister, Brenda Wilhem (James Wilhelm Sr.), and sister in laws, Alva Helms and Wanda Helms and many nieces and nephews.

Robert graduated from Indian Trail High School in 1957 and attended Wingate College. He worked for Robert O. Helms Sand and Gravel, Armour and Company, Liberty Life Insurance, Helms Discount Furniture Co., Monroe Combining, National Textiles, and National Body Shop.

Robert was an avid golfer, fisherman, hunter, and enjoyed his summer home at Lake Tillery for 38 years. His greatest golfing accomplishment was 11 hole in ones! He enjoyed his time with his family, especially the grandchildren and great-grands.

In his latter years, Shiloh Baptist Church was the focus of his heart. He loved serving in many roles of the church, especially being a Deacon.
