RICHARD CARTER NORDMAN

September 21, 1969 - March 27, 2025

What is in a name? Of course, EVERYTHING! And our brother was proud of his name, the legacy it carried, the achievements of our family, as well as the sweet tribute to the humble beginnings of his parents' life together. After paying for their marriage certificate, Ted and Brenda Nordman drove to Myrtle Beach, SC, with only enough money to buy a four-bottle pack of RC Cola and two Moon Pies, while sleeping in their car on the beach. And those RCs later provided inspiration for their son's name, Richard Carter.

On March 27, 2025, Richard Carter Nordman of Hemby Bridge, NC, was located in his home where he had started a journey with his late parents, Ted and Brenda Nordman, on their heavenly cruise. We, his sisters, have struggled with how to move forward with this new void, but we picture that Richard Carter, Ted and Brenda are together on a cruise ship playing Uno, Monopoly or having a good competitive game of Horse…yes, some good wholesome cheating will be taking place.

Richard Carter was born in the Raleigh area on September 21, 1969, the second child of Ted and Brenda. Knowing that a name is important and should be strong throughout, they went with the family tradition of RICHARD–we have A LOT of Richard(s) in our family–in honor of his paternal grandfather who crossed the seas from Bremen, Germany, to start a new life in the US. His middle name, CARTER, was in honor of Mr. Carter, the gentleman architect who took a chance on Ted straight out of college with a wife, daughter and another child on the way.

Richard Carter grew up in Charlotte, NC, and lived most of his adult life in and around Charlotte, where he worked hard to bring honor to this amazing name. In school, grades were never his priority, though he honed some serious art skills and excelled in Junior ROTC at Carmel Junior High School and South Mecklenburg High School. He also cultivated unique friendships with an eclectic array of people. His friendship was true, strong, loyal and given wholeheartedly. If you were lucky enough to ever have him as your friend–and his sisters got to be part of this special elite group–you were loved unconditionally with great protection and reverence. He made lifelong friendships and memories at South Meck (hollar to the BENZ BOYZ) and he won every fight he was ever in.

After high school, Richard Carter joined the United States Marine Corps, doing boot camp at Parris Island, SC. He continued serving in the Marines as a motor transit member in the reserves stationed in Charlotte, NC, while he attended Pfeiffer College in Misenheimer, NC. Following in his father's footsteps, he studied business administration and art, while simultaneously working at the college's radio station. In 1989, shortly after Hurricane Hugo hit the Charlotte area hard, Richard decided to move back home to help pick up the pieces. Richard would go on to achieve many working goals, such as receiving his real estate license, working for the USPS, and managing a handful of departments and locations in retail.

In life, Richard Carter loved others unconditionally, giving much of what he had and owned to others. Being a true friend, great brother, and adoring uncle to his four nieces and one nephew, he made the world a better place. He truly lived up to his great name, never forgetting to honor those before him that led the way. Richard Carter was a man of great belief in the teachings of Jesus Christ. He was confirmed at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Charlotte, NC, and sought to be true and faithful to his family, friends, and God.

Richard Carter is preceded in death by his parents–Theodore Paul Nordman and Brenda Mae Hill Nordman, maternal grandparents–Eddie and Hattie Hill, paternal grandparents–Richard and Virginia Nordman, an impressive number of aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as one of his best friends, Paul Hagstrom.

Missing him dearly here is his sweet kitty Ruby, big sister Carmen Plemmons (Mitch) of Irmo, SC, little sister Gin Roseman (Karl-Heinz) of Boone, NC, niece Alicia Plemmons (Walker) of Morgantown, WV, nephew Zachary Roseman of Cullowhee, NC, niece Kelly Plemmons of Irmo, SC, niece India Austin (Clay) of Jefferson, NC, niece Deirdre Roseman of Boone, NC, his great niece and nephew–Miakoda and Phoenix of Cullowhee, NC, and aunts Jenny Lee, Rusty Porter, Linda Smith, Patsy World, Uncle GB Hill, as well as a lengthy list of cousins!

Richard Carter's celebration of life has not been planned yet. We are still making sense of this new world without him. As soon as we know, we will notify you and will be honored to have you be there to share stories, love and strength while remembering this awesome man with the big name that did great things. In the meanwhile, enjoy a cold RC Cola, and be sure to pour a little out for our brother.

We love you brother, RICHARD CARTER NORDMAN

Forever your sisters, Carmen and Gin
