Mr. Milton E. "Pete" Moore Jr., age 81, of Charlotte, NC, was born February 21, 1940, and passed on September 9, 2021, at Atrium Hospice, McWhorter Hospice House in Union County after a brief stay at Atrium Main.
Services will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, October 15, 2021 at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Rd, Triangle, VA 22172.
Pete was born in Grafton, WV and moved as a teenager with his grandmother, Bessie (Posten) Moore to join his Aunt Ruth in McKeesport, PA. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps on March 4, 1958, and completed basic training at Paris Island, SC. On July 27, 1958, he married Mary Kathryn "Kay" (Poling) who preceded him in death on November 14, 2004. He rose through the ranks and was discharged as a Corporal in March of 1962. In July of 1962 he enlisted in the US Navy and retired as a Lieutenant after 20+ years. Pete was employed at VITRO Labs, Booz, Allen and Hamilton, and CEXEC, INC. He fully retired in 2000.
His mother, Rosemary & stepfather, William "Bill" Reese, his father, Milton E. Moore Sr., & stepmother, Katherine preceded him in death as well as a brother, William Garrett Moore who died in infancy, a half-brother, Sammy Jo Moore, & a grandson, Rocky McDaniel.
He is survived by his widow, Pattie J. (McDaniel); his children, Tammy Dove and husband, Keith of Remington, VA, Terri Reider and husband, Kirk of Clarksburg, WV, Michael Moore and wife, Natalie of Waxhaw, NC, Brenda Heflin and husband, Michael of Goldvein, VA, Linda Lopez and husband Matt of Suffolk, VA; stepdaughters, Cathy McDaniel and husband, Roger of Grafton, WV, and Jeanie McDaniel and partner, Donald Hays of Flemington, WV; a sister, Deborah Davis and husband, Dwayne of Tuscola, IL; and a half-brother, Harold "Howdy" Moore and partner, Teri Curtain of Maryland. Pete is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Museum of the United States Navy or the National Museum of the Marine Corp in Pete's honor.
