Michael Blake Kerns

November 20, 1965 - January 26, 2025

After a long and courageous battle with debilitating depression, Michael Kerns, age 59, found peace in The Lord's presence on January 26, 2025. Born on November 20, 1965 to Gene and Joyce Kerns in Minnesota, Mike's life was one filled with adventure, family, and the music that brought him joy— he could sing every lyric from Prince's Purple Rain album. Mike traveled the world during his father's Army career, a journey that shaped his adventurous spirit.

He graduated from Abington High School (Abington Heights, PA) in 1984, and later attended Beaufort Community College. A lifelong Minnesota Vikings fan, Mike had a magnetic personality and a knack for connecting with people. Whether managing restaurants, retail stores, or excelling as an account rep, Mike brought his charisma and dedication to every role. More recently, he served as the lead service manager at Gibbons Motors in north Charlotte.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Gene Kerns and is survived by his wife Katrina, and their three children: Jamison, Sydney, and Samantha of Vanceboro, NC; son Holden Kerns (Juli) of California, MD; daughter Meredith Kerns of Chocowinity; mother Joyce Kerns of Raleigh; sister Yvette Kerns of Waxhaw; brother Brian Kerns (MaryBeth) of Kernersville.

Mike was a proud grandfather to three beautiful grandchildren: Kylie, Aubrey, and Andrew; and he cherished his relationships with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, February 1 at Christ Lutheran Church.
