Lawrence (Larry) Blomberg (54) was a loving husband and devoted father. He passed away on February 26, 2023 after a hard fought battle with cancer.

Born in Queens, NY, the Long Island native grew up understanding the importance of giving back. The son of a first-generation Irish immigrant and 18-year fire captain, Larry also dedicated himself to serving his community. He spent 16+ years with Centereach Fire Department Engine Co. 3 and served as Captain of Company 3 in 2004.

Larry met his wife, Susan, through friends at the firehouse. The two married in 1995, setting off a journey that took them from the shores of the Long Island Sound to the south, settling in the Charlotte, North Carolina area in 2006.

Larry spent over 15 years working for UNC Charlotte. He enjoyed bringing his unique sense of humor to his dedicated employees and connecting with colleagues outside of the office.

In addition to his time with the fire service and UNC, Larry loved photography and taking on projects around the house. A car-enthusiast, Larry enjoyed visiting Charlotte's annual auto show with his son and could often be found viewing cars & videos on his iPad. He was happiest teaching his daughter important life skills, ranging from digital photography, to preparing traditional Swedish pancakes, and cooking for extended family during the holidays.

Larry is survived by his wife of 27 years, Susan; son, AJ; daughter, Carina; siblings, Ed (Jeanne), Jim, Pam (John); sisters-in-laws Laura (Andy), Karen, Linda (Glenn), Kim; brother-in-law Rob; Father and Mother-in-Law Robert and Jennie and many beloved nieces and nephews and preceded in death by his parents Albert and Bridget and his brother The Late William.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 725 Deese St, Monroe, NC 28112. The family will receive friends On Friday, March 3, 2023 at Holland Funeral Service, 806 Circle Drive, Monroe, NC 28112 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and again from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
