Lawrence Tyler Kennedy, 74 years of age, was born December 26, 1947, to the late James Anton Kennedy and Mimie Small Kennedy in Kinston, NC. Lawrence, a loving and respected husband, father, and grandfather met his Savior face to face on Friday, February 18, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Holland Funeral Service in Monroe, NC officiated by the Reverend Jimmy Sowers of Kinston, NC and the Reverend John Hurley of Indian Trail, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm until 1:45pm at Holland Funeral Service prior to the beginning of the service. Mr. Kennedy will be laid to rest in Ritch Cemetery. Lawrence leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Annette Sowers Kennedy; three children, Lawerence Kennedy, Jr. (Lesley) of Orlando FL; Kevin Kennedy (Kirsten) and Leslie Brett (Drew) both of Indian Trail, NC. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; Katelynn Dermid (Cody), Karleigh Sizemore (Zach), Konner Kennedy (Gabi), Nathan Kennedy, Toby Brett, Holden Brett and Remly Brett and one great grandson, Lewis Dermid. He also leaves behind a brother, James Kennedy, of Kinston, NC and a sister, Martha Parkhurst, of Jacksonville, NC and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Lawrence is preceded in death by his grandson, Atticus Brett. Lawrence spent his life as a no nonsense, humble, hardworking follower of Christ that never needed to be the center of attention. Transitioning from the Army after serving in Vietnam, he worked in the trucking industry for 45 years. Retiring from the trucking industry in 2015, he spent the last years of his life spoiling his wife and grandchildren to the exasperation of his children. Lawrence enjoyed working in his shop on various vehicles from his children's first cars to conducting needed maintenance on the trucks he depended on to make a living. His favorite sayings were "It is already broke, so just take it apart and see if you can fix it", "There is no fix in a can" and "It's not a 15 minute job". He readily shared his mechanical knowledge and view of life with his children preparing them with the attitude and life skills to tackle any obstacle presented.
