Joseph "Joe" Lemuel Evans, 88, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March20, 2023. Joe was born September 18, 1934, in Woodbine, Kentucky to the late John Harrison and Alice Walters Evans.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Grace Baptist Church, 3411 Weddington Road, Monroe, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 1:00 until 1:45 pm in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park, Lancaster Avenue, Monroe.

Joe was a veteran having served four years in the US Marine Corp. It was while he was stationed at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina that he met Janice, his wife of 65 years, in Sanford, NC. They have been residents of Union County since 1970, He received his Mechanical Design degree from Durham Technical Institute, Durham, NC. He worked for the textile industry designing and installing textile machinery, many of which were patented. Upon his retirement, he returned to his true love of gardening, repairing small engines and cars and babysitting.

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Janice M. Evans, son, Jeff Evans (Tanya), daughter, Joan Evans; grandsons, Marshall Evans and Vladik Bodnarchuk, all of Monroe. Six nephews and three nieces. He is also survived by two sisters, Marcella Baker, Louisville, Kentucky and Margaret Poor of Florence, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny T. Evans and Walter Ray Evans of Kentucky.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 3411 Weddington Road, Monroe, NC 28110; Novant Health Hospice, 324 N. McDowell St., Charlotte, NC 28204 and Alzheimer's Association, 4600 Park Road, Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209.

The family would like to say a special "thank you" to Caregivers Folakie Atherly and Davida Kirkpatrick who gave Joe such loving care during his illness.
