John Daniel Hunter McKegney, lovingly known as Daniel, Dan to his friends, and "Danny Boi" to his sisters, passed away far too soon on November 24, 2024, at the age of 22. Born on November 1, 2002, Daniel lived a life that, while tragically short, was full of love, laughter, and unforgettable moments.

Daniel's passions reflected his vibrant personality. He found joy in going to the gym, skateboarding, grilling with friends, and simply being a source of light to those around him. Known for his caring and protective nature, he was a friend to all and a protector to many. His humor, goofiness, and ability to make everyone laugh will be dearly missed. Beneath his playful demeanor lay a sensitive and sweet soul, one that deeply touched all who knew him. Daniel worked as a counselor at the Asheville Recovery Center. Daniel was a mentor, a confidant, and a friend to all. His kind heart, infectious smile, and genuine care for others made him a beloved figure to many. His presence brought comfort to those in need, and his words provided solace to those in pain.

He believed in second chances. His memory will live on in the stories of those he helped, the friendships he forged, and the love he shared.

Though Daniel faced challenges that many could not imagine, he was on a promising path and had so much life yet to live. The world was unfair in taking him so soon, but his legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those he loved.

Daniel is survived by his loving father, Matthew McKegney, and his two devoted sisters, Cameron and Ceara McKegney. He joins his beloved mother, Lura Hunter McKegney, and both sets of grandparents in heaven, where we know they are welcoming him with open arms.

A memorial service to celebrate Daniel's beautiful life will be held in early January 2025, following the holiday season. Details will be shared with friends and family.

Daniel, you are deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. Your laughter, kindness, and light will remain in our hearts forever. "Rest easy, sweet soul."
