Joel Lynn Hornback, 65, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2023, surrounded by his devoted wife. He was born March 26, 1958, in Union County, a son of the late James Risden Hornback and the late Vera Ina Hornback.

Joel was a beloved husband, stepfather, step-grandfather, brother, and nephew. Joel worked for Precision Saw Works for 23 years before retiring. He worked for API for 15 years. He was a history buff, historian preservationist, and he donated the first item for the Marshville Museum. He never met a stranger. His last project was to volunteer to clean up bricks from the Old Knotts Inn chimney to build a memorial plaque in Old Sneedsboro, NC. He was the last Hornback man in Anson County since 1749. He was a member of Wadesboro Church of God.

Joel leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 15 years, Karen Walters Hornback; stepdaughter, Jennie Dutton (Ryan) all of Wadesboro; step-grandchildren, Hilary, Edward, and Jacob of Wadesboro; sisters, Carol H. Carpenter, Elizabeth "Libby" H. Beachum (David) of Peachland; 3 nieces and 5 nephews; and his beloved chihuahua, Trixie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in passing by his brothers, Richard Hornback, Ronnie Sherrill Hornback; sister, Janice H. Faulkner; and his niece, Glenda C. McGrady.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Wadesboro Church of God, 809 N Greene St, Wadesboro, NC 28170. Visitation will be held prior to service from 2:00pm until 2:45pm at the church. Mr. Hornback will be laid to rest at the Griffin Cemetery in Polkton immediately following the service.
