Obituary

Jimmy Mullis "Pops" 77, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 9, 2023 after a brief illness. Jimmy was born on November 30, 1945 in Union County, son of the late Calvin Mullis & Cleo Mullis Threatt. He is also preceded in death by step-father, Ell Threatt, siblings, Bill Mullis, Jerry Mullis, Brenda Millican, Sue Griffin, great grandson, Wyatt Parks, niece, Jatanna Anderson, great niece, Megan Brooks and great nephew, Donnie Mullis.

He loved the Lord and his church, Bible Baptist Tabernacle. He was a very devoted family man, with many life long friends. He served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. Jimmy was a gifted athlete known in football as "The Mule". He broke 3 world records in power lifting. After high school he signed with the Chicago White Sox. He never forgot where we came from and he was a selfless and giving person.

A celebration of life service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Bible Baptist Tabernacle, 2900 Walkup Ave., Monroe, NC 28110, with burial to follow with full military honors in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00PM to 1:45PM at the church prior to the service.

Jimmy is survived by his only child Brandy Aldridge, grandchildren, Bethany (Chandler) Blankenship, Ben (Betsy) Parks, Raymond (Kaycee) Aldridge, Danielle Aldridge, Anna Aldridge, great grandkids, Bailey Hargett, Caroline Parks-Melton, Luke "James" Sterling, Blair Sterling, Stetson Parks, Dakota Aldridge, Baby Blankenship, brothers in law, Cecil Griffin, Harold Millican, nephews and nieces, Dawn (Jeff) Edwards, Richard Mullis, Ted (Cindy) Moore, Sean Hildreth, Scott Kiker, Bonita Mullis, Tim (Candice) Griffin, Rodney Griffin, Josh Mullis. He loved his great nieces & nephews , Lauren, Jared, Colton, Jonathan, Jake, Matt, Blake Kristen, Charles, Rebecca, Zack & Morgan, Justin, Taylor, Colin, Jared, Ethan & their many children. Also surviving are his life-long friends, Jeff (Shelia) Helms, JT (Leasa) Thomas, David Helms, family friend, Greg Laney, his pastor, Rev. Bobby L Leonard and Sunday School Teacher, Keith Howard.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of the Special Cardiac ICU at Presbyterian Main, Charlotte, NC.
