Obituary

Jimmy Austin Mangum, 74, peacefully went to his heavenly home surrounded by his family, on Thursday, May 26, 2022. He was born January 27, 1948, to the late O.B. and Doris Mangum. Jimmy was a Vice Commander and active member of the American Legion Post #121 in Marshville. He was a Vietnam Veteran who proudly served for two years and eight months during the Vietnam Conflict. Jimmy loved his family dearly and cherished the moments he was able to spend with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He loved spending time with his family and going hunting at White Store. He went on various hunting trips with his son, grandson, and friends. Being in the woods had a way of making him feel closer to God. Jimmy also enjoyed farming hay and being outdoors especially in the late afternoons with his dog, Levi. In his earlier years, he enjoyed coaching sports like baseball and football. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00pm, on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Holland Funeral Service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service. Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Nancy Mangum; children, Jimmy Scott Mangum (Annette), Darby Shan (Heather); grandchildren, Dexter Greeson (Brittney), Chelsea Bekolo (Kevin), Dylan Mangum (Jaida), Carli Mangum (Clay), Connor Mangum, and Jackson Mangum; great-grandchildren, Camden Greeson, Braxton Greeson, Scottlan Mangum; brother, John Mangum (Linda); brother-in-law, Sherrill Haney (Barbara); sister-in-laws, Hilda Edwards, Pat Haney; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in passing by his brother & sister-in-law, Ned Haney (Betty), brother-in-law, Charles Haney; and brother-in-law, William Edwards. In lieu flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Centerview Baptist Church or to the American Legion at Floyd Staton Post 121 PO Box 472 Marshville, NC 28103.
