Obituary

Mr. Jerry Dixon Medlin, 83, of Union County, NC, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025.

Jerry was born on December 23, 1941, in Union County, NC, to the late Fuller Jerome Medlin and Martha Ada Pigg Medlin. He was preceded in death by his brothers F.J. Medlin Jr., Wayne Medlin, Bruce Medlin, and his sister Doris Medlin Broome.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Esther Taylor Medlin; daughters Pamela M. Hinson and husband Lynn, and Julie M. Linn and husband Tom; granddaughter Allison H. Burton and husband Bricesen; grandsons Ryan A. Linn and wife Haley, and Jacob D. Linn and fiancée Anna Grace Hilbish; and great-grandson Gunner W. Burton. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Claude S. Broome, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

Jerry began his career as a salesman with ATI (Allvac) before becoming a proud business owner of Medlin Farm & Garden. He was a lifelong farmer and gardener, faithfully planting a garden every year and finding joy in time spent outdoors. He loved being on his tractor, working the land, and caring for his animals. Jerry had a special place in his heart for his horses, Prancer and Flash, as well as the many dogs he had throughout his life—especially his little dog, Penny.

An avid golfer, Jerry enjoyed both playing and watching the game. He was also known for the simple pleasures that defined his days: spending mornings eating breakfast at restaurants all over town, enjoying afternoons in his chair in front of the carport, and always finding peace in the familiar rhythms of daily life.

Above all, Jerry loved his family deeply and cherished the time he spent with them. His wonderful sense of humor and playful pranks brought countless smiles and laughter, and will surely be missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service to celebrate Jerry's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2025, in the Chapel of Holland Funeral Home, 806 Circle Dr., Monroe, NC. The family will greet friends following the service.

Memorials may be made to Atrium Hospice of Union County or Philadelphia Baptist Church in Marshville, NC.
