IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mr. James Franklin
Harbin
March 31, 1936 – November 15, 2022
James Franklin Harbin, 86, passed away on Tuesday, November 15th, 2022. He was born in Statesville, North Carolina, on March 31, 1936, to James Shepherd Harbin and Opal Troutman Harbin.
"Jim" accepted Christ as Lord and Savior in his late 20's, while in the Phillipines at a revival. He was a longtime and dedicated member of Bible Baptist Tabernacle, where his touch can be seen throughout the property, as he was always working on some new project; giving generously of his time, labor and expertise whenever needed.
Retiring from the Navy in 1983 after a 29 year career, at the rank of E-7, Jim worked as a general contractor, home renovator, and cabinetmaker, and built–nearly alone–the house he spent the rest of his life in. Besides being a devoted husband and father, Jim was a highly ranked competitive pool player, which he enjoyed right up to the end of his life, winning countless tournaments and trophies, as well as being a calm and godly influence on the younger players he taught along the way. He will be remembered by the many many people he touched as a kind, gentle, and forthright man; usually with a cup of coffee or a "Co-Cola" within arm's reach. Jim never walked out of a room he hadn't made a friend in.
Jim was predeceased by father James Shepherd Harbin, mother Opal Troutman Harbin, and sister Joan Farnsworth. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, JudithRae Harbin; his children: Jim Harbin, Jill Rorie and husband Ed, Ken Harbin and wife Michelle, Dustin Harbin, and Shoshawna Harbin and husband Josh Neeley; his niece Ann Crawford and husband Wayne, niece Carol Mckinnell, and nephew Henry Farnsworth; his grandchildren Amanda Johnston and husband Casey, Erica Harbin; John Rorie and wife Katie, Jack Rorie, Adam Rorie, and Kyle Rorie; Christopher Harbin, Breänna Harbin, and Kaylyn Sanchez and husband Ivan; Pazi Harbin and Sawyer Neeley; and his great-grandchildren Jaxon Johnston and Rylie Johnston, Syler Harbin, Isabela Sanchez, and Maël Sanchez.
Funeral arrangements will be held at 2pm on Saturday, November 19th, at Bible Baptist Tabernacle, 2900 Walkup Avenue, Monroe, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that charitable donations be made to Live Simply For Orphans: PO Box 254, Monroe NC 28111-0254; or online at www.livesimplyfororphans.org.
