Henry Carroll McCray, age 91, of Monroe, NC passed away surrounded by his family and friends on March 28, 2023 at Atrium Union, Monroe, North Carolina.

Born in Union County, NC on September 24, 1931, he was the son of the late Hurley Franklin "Doc" McCray and Mary Francis Snyder McCray.

Carroll grew up in the Wolf Pond Community of Union County and graduated from Prospect High School in 1948. He joined the Air Force in 1951 and served during the Korean War. He also worked in and eventually owned his family's business, McCray Wholesale Grocery Company which served the Union County area and beyond for 104 years. Carroll was a faithful member of Wolf Pond Baptist Church, Pageland, SC where his family were founding members. He served the church in many capacities including Deacon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Louise Yarbrough and Dorothy Sapp as well as three brothers; H.F. McCray, Jr., John McCray, and Hubert McCray.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Anne McCray; a son, H. Carroll McCray, II (Angel) of Charlottesville, VA; a daughter, Allyson Williamson (Johnnie) of Matthews, NC; Randall McCray (Michelle) of Minooka, IL; son-in-law, Alan Cox of Monroe, NC; sister, Margaret McCray Brown of Clinton, SC; sister, Martha McCray Sayers, Concord, NC; sister-in-law, Paula Walters (Harold), Monroe, NC. Five grandchildren: Trey McCray (Chelsea), Meredith McCray, Tori Craig (D.J.), Matt McCray, Mallory McCray; four great-grandchildren: Charlie McCray, Aiden McCray, Teegan Craig, Dallas Craig and many wonderful nieces and nephews who affectionately called him "Uncle Buddy".

Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service at Wolf Pond Baptist Church, Pageland, SC from 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm on Saturday, April 1, 2023. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 pm which will include military honors.
